Odera Construction completed the comprehensive restoration and renovation of a 120-year-old timber frame commercial building in Toronto, transforming a second-storey heritage structure into a fully modernized workplace while preserving the architectural character that makes the building unique. The project demonstrates our expertise in heritage restoration, commercial renovation, and adaptive reuse, seamlessly integrating modern building systems within a historically significant structure.
The scope included full asbestos abatement, structural steel reinforcement, subfloor levelling, upgraded plumbing and drainage, complete thermal insulation, acoustic optimization, and comprehensive life safety improvements. Every phase of construction was carefully planned to strengthen the existing building, improve long-term performance, and satisfy modern building code requirements while preserving its original craftsmanship and architectural integrity.
Working within a century-old timber structure required meticulous planning, technical expertise, and exceptional coordination. Structural reinforcement was completed with millimetre-level precision, while heritage elements were carefully protected throughout demolition and construction. Close collaboration between consultants, engineers, and the project team ensured each intervention respected the building's history while delivering a safe, functional, and efficient commercial workplace for generations to come.
During construction, original hand-hewn beams and early twentieth-century timber connections were uncovered and thoughtfully incorporated into the finished interior, allowing the building's history to remain an integral part of the workplace experience. The completed renovation demonstrates how thoughtful commercial construction can preserve architectural heritage while creating inspiring workplaces that meet the expectations of today's businesses.
